According to The Independent Press, “Machado is the area’s most dynamic football player and the school’s most athletic individual. A 6-0 165-pound junior whose motor never stops, the Berkeley Heights Quarterback led Governor Livingston’s football team to its first State Championship appearance in over 20 years”. Machado’s offensive showcase performance was the Highlander’s Thanksgiving Day game against New Providence where he passed for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns – he ended the season passing for 865 yards, rushing for 360 and scoring 15 touchdowns. His total yardage, which included punt and kick-returns, was over 1,500 yards. At Free Safety, Max collected 56 tackles and pulled in the most interceptions within the Mountain Valley Conference at 7. As a Defensive Back, Max earned First Team All-Area Honors and received MSG Defensive Player of the Week where his defensive showcase performance was the 32-28 State Sectional Playoff victory over Summit when he intercepted 3 passes, recovered a fumble and threw for 2 touchdowns.

Three sport athlete – also a 2-year starter on GL’s Varsity Basketball team, Max possesses great athletic ability and is at his best when creating in the open floor or causing turnovers that lead to field goals. He’s often assigned to the opposition’s best perimeter player and recovers a great deal of rebounds from his guard position. He recently decided to give up baseball and this spring he is projected to participate on Varsity Track and concentrate in the 100-meter, 4×400-meter relay and long jump.
